The connection was a bit slow, but it's nothing to worry about.

Gibson SG Standard Cherry 1973 Vintage Electric Guitar

This guitar is a commission sale - if you have a high end guitar you are interested in selling, please contact us via our easy to find website - search: Sell Us Your Guitar. Here for sale we have a stunning vintage Gibson SG Standard in Cherry finish. Made in the USA, the serial number and specification of this instrument indicate that it was manufactured in 1973. Features such as the dotted Gibson logo in the headstock, the six digit serial number with the 'Made in USA' stamp to the rear, volute, small pickguard, original Harmonica bridge and pot codes dated to the 36th week of 1973 mean we can confidently state that this is an original 1973 Gibson SG Standard. A set-neck construction is employed, and comprises a Mahogany body, Laminated Mahogany neck and 22 fret fingerboard, which appears to be Ebony. Chrome hardware is fitted, including a 'new design' tune-o-matic bridge (commonly referred to as the 'Harmonica' bridge), StopBar tailpiece and Gibson sealed tuning machines. A pair of Gibson 'Super Humbucking' pickups are installed, and are wired to a 3-way toggle switch and independent volume and tone controls. The Laminated Mahogany neck plays very well, with a profile which might be described as a moderately-sized 'C' shape which inspires confidence for chord playing whilst remaining slim enough for articulate lead lines. This is paired with a notably narrow nut width, which at just 1.586" is visibly thinner than the typical 1.7"+ found on SGs today, save perhaps for the Angus Young Signature model, which itself was modelled on a '70s SG in his collection. The fingerboard is notably dark in appearance, leading us to believe that it is Ebony. Combined with its nice tight grain pattern there is certainly a luxurious feel to the playing experience, not to mention a genuine vintage vibe which is very inspiring in the hands. The pair of Gibson 'Super Humbucking' pickups installed in this guitar deliver thick and full-bodied tones, with plenty of genuine vintage warmth and colour. Sometimes referred to as 'Tar Backs' due to their black covering to the rear, these pickups were designed by Bill Lawrence and were found in many Norlin era Gibsons. The neck position is warm and round, whilst retaining plenty of clarity for your lead lines and solos. The bridge is of course brighter, and provides plenty of grunt for some saturated rock riffing. The traditional twin humbucker controls provide comprehensive tonal options, meaning you can really teach this old dog some new tricks. An astonishingly well preserved and highly playable example of one of Gibson's most celebrated guitars. All aspects of the headstock demonstrate scratching and indentation in line with a well played guitar of this age, most notably to the top rear edge and front top corners. The front face demonstrates notable nitrocellulose checking, with further lighter checking to the rear face. Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck demonstrates moderate playwear wearing through the finish behind the 4th fret. Light scratching and indentation is apparent throughout the register, not affecting the playability. Beneath the volute there is a notable scratch. We have carefully inspected and can assure this is NOT a crack and does not flex, does not glow under the black light and does not run entirely across the neck width. This scratch poses no structural concern. Some very light markings or ‘tear out’ of the fingerboard can be seen occasionally, but does not detract from playability or overall appearance of the fingerboard. Body: Overall very good condition. All aspects of the body demonstrate scratching and indentation in line with a well played guitar of this age, most notably to the centre of the lower bout below the tailpiece. The bottom edge demonstrates notable chipping and indentation revealing the wood beneath. The rear demonstrates moderate buckle rash, not piercing the finish, with further wear to the finish apparent around the treble side edge of the lower bout. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate light signs of use, not affecting playability. There is considerable material remaining for any fret work the new owner may wish to perform. This guitar appears to have had a refret within the last few years which has been performed to an excellent standard.
