Gibson ES-165 with hard case Made in Nashville, USA — September 1991 (first year of production) There’s very little information about these online, and for good reason — they’re rare. Essentially, this model is a Herb Ellis signature without the zig-zag trapeze tailpiece and fitted with a 490R humbucker instead of the BJB floating mini humbucker. That design, in turn, was based on Herb’s original single-pickup 1953 ES-175. Lovely spec: Flame maple top and back Mahogany neck Rosewood fingerboard with split parallelogram inlays It sounds wonderful, with a lovely low action, and looks like a million dollars. Condition: A few scratches and dings here and there, but nothing major. The gold hardware is tarnished — as is typical with gold finishes.
