Wurlitzer EP200 - Vintage electric piano

Now and again, a massively collectable item arrives from nowhere. This Wurlitzer EP200 USA-made vintage electric piano is a MUST-have for Scottish collectors (anywhere on the planet). Marketed by Klassic Keys GB (Ashby-de-la-Zouch, E. Midlands, England). Read on, McDuff HISTORY -This Wurli arrived at KKGB HQ in April 2024, part of a deal with a customer from Somerset. It dates from 1970 (thats a guess, as there is no date stamp under the keys, unusually). The ID plate confirms that it was a genuine UK 220V import (to a trading estate in Knutsford, Cheshire...). No known recent history, but this EP200 was definitely owned by someone in "Stealers Wheel", when they existed as a band in the 1970s; maybe owned by co-founder Joe Egan? It must have been used "on the road", as the stencilled "Stealers Wheel" underneath tells us this. It is therefore logical to assume that it was plonked on by all and sundry at rehearsals etc. It is safe to assume that Gerry Rafferty would have been amongst the many. EVERYONE is attracted to a Wurlitzer EP piano, that sound is such an inspiration, and always will be.... "Stuck in the middle with you" might have been composed with its help. Gerry left the band before "Baker Street" was on the map, so we cannot call the Wurli a "Baker Street" piano....even though there are NO pianos at all on "Stuck in.." and "Baker St" recordings....Stealers Wheel were primarily a guitar-based band, really (plus mandolin & sax, now and again). The EP200 is now fully "pro" serviced, voiced & tuned (3 days, on & off). Great care was taken to ensure that the mechanical action parts all work properly, the keys solidly whack the 64 assemblies, and the hammers strike the steel reeds with consistent accuracy. In 200 pianos, the reeds are actually from the "100" series Wurlitzers. This explains why they sound much "grittier" than the later (more common) 200A. This, married up to an original, refurbed 1974 200 amplifier, produces the character (slightly) overdriven sound eg "Your Gold Teeth" by (early) Steely Dan (particularly at the end...oh, just play the whole song all the way....its proper music). In short, THIS EP200 has more balls than a Bingo machine..... It comes complete with bright blue pilot light, new hardware, new faceplate, NEW black leggies, and a matched sustain pedal....the vintage sports car has a new clutch and new tyres...meep, meep, vroom, vroom.. CONDITION Normally KKGB will endeavour to "slap on the Polyfilla, lippy etc" to make a Wurli look its best. This grizzly beastie has been left virtually "as is". There is "ciggy-burn" evidence on the lid. There are "ciggy-burns" on a few keys. There is a (unclear) band name on the lid (we left it, why not?). All this can be called "patina"..whatever...it all adds to the character & personality. What matters is that this piano plays like stink....it’s a JOY! Hey, you wanna look at it and pull it to pieces or just play it, fella? With an original amp, original internal speakers and original "dirty" reeds, this piano just makes its presence known. OK, the audio signal might generate an unacceptable signal/noise on your DAW screen (because 50 years ago there was not even any stereo, and nobody cared about a little hiss or hum once the drummer regained consciousness and found the other drumstick). KKGB will supply an Orchid passive transformer with the package. This effectively kills the inherent mains hum that ALL EP pianos emanate. Hey, Mr Engineer, you an always use a microphone, you know....and there are loads of software devices that deal with undesirable frequencies; you know this....gimme a break....its worth any hassle just to get such a Wurlitzer on the recordings, trust me....serial number is 61530....a very early production EP200, for sure..... UK price is £4999.00 This is a rigid price, so no schoolboy silly offers, please. It’s so tiresome. In our opinion, the EP is worth much more, but the future fiscal forecast still looks Forlornsville, man....so KKGB are being realistic. Sale is via HMRC VAT margin scheme. This simply means that no VAT may be reclaimed. Private buyers are unaffected. Free UK (mainland) delivery as far north as Dundee, in KKGB van/door-to-door. EXPORT price is £5000. Local taxes/duties will be levied by the uniform brigade at customs/ Douane/shippers. KKGB have no control over this. Piano will be cased for maximum protection, shipped by DHL or UPS. 120V voltage step-down transformer can be supplied (£50 extra). KKGB are experienced exporters will ship out (nearly) world-wide. Tell us where you are and speedy send-quote will appear.
