________________________________________________________ *** VINTAGE & TRADITIONAL GUITARS *** - NEW LISTING! - 03/10/2024. - Reduced Offer Price! *** My last Harmony Monterey Mandolin sold at £399, so I am amazed that this one has not sold at reduced price of £299.00....so 26/10/2024 - here is a further final reduction to £275.00.....this has to be a bargain! ________________________________________________________ ACOUSTIC BLUES/AMERICANA MANDOLIN - HARMONY MONTEREY H8010, CHICAGO, USA, VINTAGE LATE 1960s A-STYLE ARCHTOP/ F-HOLE, ALL SOLID, "REDBURST" ALL SOLID BIRCH - All Original, including replacement Original Pickguard from vintage parts stock, Really Excellent Condition - Through the Workshop for full overhaul & now available! ______________________________________________________ Stock Number: VTG1524/1. In addition to the following description notes, further background information and restoration details can be found on my Vintage & Traditional Guitars website, on this link....https://www.vintagetraditionalguitars.co.uk/details.php?id=515 *** Overhaul Completed! - photos of the completed job, including an original pickguard! *** Bags more character and vintage appeal, for lot less bucks than either the cheapest similar style Eastman mandolin, or the top Ozark "Deluxe" & Gold Tone models of similar archtop type.....currently £659 & upwards for the Eastman, and £599 for the Ozark, at the splendid Eagle Music Shop! *** Exceptionally tidy vintage Harmony H8010 Mandolin, sporting the iconic Monterey "Redburst" finish so well-known on the famous Monterey archtop guitar, and now reunited with an original pickguard. I can see no difference at all between this and the H410 model of similar vintage, which did sport the "Monterey" name logo on the headstock. *** The usual internal date stamp cannot be seen, but knowing that Harmony produced these Mandolins until at least 1970, and that on their guitars they only started to fit tuner bushings in around 1969, I'm assuming that this one dates from around that year. Headstock by this date does not carry the famous "Monterey" model name, but the H8010 is the direct successor of the identical H410 which does carry the Monterey name, and both are in the famous "Redburst" livery so familiar on the Monterey archtop 6-string and Tenor 4-string guitars, I have restored many of. *** Generally very tidy condition for 50+ year old Mandolin. Minor normal use marking is minimal for age. All components original, and in good order, except for the odd screw that is, and the replacement for the originally missing pickguard & mount, is an entirely matching original Harmony 'guard, identical to the one that would have been fitted originally, that I was fortunate enough to manage to source from the USA! *** Tuning machines are original 4-on-a-plate line etched, bell-end, '60s Waverly style, in very clean & bright condition, working well, as is the Waverly "cloud" tail cover. Original adjustable floating bridge may have been altered slightly in the past, but intact and fully operational, set at lowest adjustment on the thumbwheels. *** Brief restoration work schedule included: Fit replacement original pickguard. Check frets, undertake light stoning/levelling/dressing as found necessary, and clean/lemon oil fingerboard, adjust and re-fit original nut, before re-fitting strings, and completing final set-up adjustments. Action at the 12th. fret is spot-on at around 1.5mm./2mm. Fitted set of Eagle Puretone Nickel Light Gauge 10-36 strings. There is no original case with the mandolin, but I may be able to locate an original, period correct, pressed board type case, or possibly a Hiscox hard Mandolin case additionally. *** Yet again the irreplaceable Jake Wildwood, Country Guitar Doctor, comes to our aid in my Vintage and Traditional Guitars website, with YouTube clip entitled "1960s Harmony H417 Monterey archtop mandolin - Jake Wildwood & Co."
