What is known as the 6505 was originally introduced as the 5150 in 1992, which Peavey released as a signature model for Eddie Van Halen. The name was changed to 6505 in 2004 to celebrate Peavey's 60th anniversary after they parted ways with Van Halen. Renowned for saturated high gain tones, the amplifier is notorious in the metal scene for providing more gain than is ever necessary. The 6505+ version features an extra 12AX7 valve in the preamp to prevent breakup in the clean channel. A combo version of the notorious 6505+ head, this amplifier features 60 watts of all valve power from five 12AX7 preamp valves and two 6L6GC power tubes. Inside the seriously robust enclosure is a 12" Sheffield speaker, whilst the rear panel features an extra speaker output with switchable impedance & a direct XLR out for use with your PA or recording desk, negating the need for setting up a mic. An FX loop is also found on the rear panel. There are two channels with independent 3-band EQ as well as pre & post gain controls. Each channel has its own presence & resonance pots, and there is a master spring reverb. The lead channel can be switched between crunch and lead settings using buttons on the front panel or the included footswitch. The sounds on offer range from clean (although not Fender or Vox clean) through to the insane saturated distortion sounds that we all associate with the 6505 series. There are plenty of varied tones to be found in between however, and although this combo is heavy, it is arguably more practical than the 100 watt head.
