In addition to the following description notes, further background information and restoration details can be found on my Vintage & Traditional Guitars website, on this link....https://www.vintagetraditionalguitars.co.uk/details.php?id=617 *** A really early example of a Mandolin model Harmony continued making right up to the late '60s/early '70s, as witnessed by Jake Wildwood's YouTube video and Blogspot write-up linked below. *** Remarkably tidy vintage Harmony Monterey H410 Mandolin, sporting the iconic Monterey "Redburst" finish so familiar on the Monterey archtop 6-string and Tenor 4-string guitars, I have restored many of. Even after professionally completed structural repairs, these are not obvious or detrimental to the appearance or more particularly the playability or sound of the instrument. *** The usual internal date stamp cannot be seen, but the Mandolin carries the Headstock style seen on late '40s Monterey guitars, and square-end 4x4 1940s/'50s pattern Waverly tuners. *** Generally very tidy condition for 70+ year old Mandolin. Minor normal use marking is minimal for age, and the superficial evidence of the professionally completed repairs is minimal. *** All components original, and in good order, except for the replacement of the floating bridge with an entirely matching, slightly altered, Rosewood original unit that I was fortunate enough to manage to source from the USA, and added vintage type bootlace ferrules for the tuner posts! **** Tuning machines are original 4-on-a-plate square-end, 1940s/'50s Waverly style, in very clean & generally quite bright condition, working well, as is the Waverly "cloud" tail cover. Original adjustable floating bridge had been altered and had collapsed, hence the need to source the entirely original correct replacement, intact and fully operational, if slightly altered, set at lowest adjustment on the thumbwheels. *** Brief restoration overhaul work schedule included: Remove the body back, glue and cleat reinforce the top crack, thoroughly clean seam/linings to remove all old glue residue and re-fix the back, check frets, undertake light stoning/levelling/dressing as found necessary, stabilise fine old fingerboard shrinkage crack and clean/lemon oil fingerboard, re-assemble fittings, add vintage style bootlace ferrules for tuner posts, fitting new strings, and completing final set-up adjustments. *** The mandolin has been set-up and action at the 12th. fret is spot-on at around 1.5mm./2mm. Fitted set of Eagle Puretone Nickel Light Gauge 10-36 strings for the slightly higher string tension on the 352.5mm./13 7/8" scale as opposed to the 13" scale on the Harmony Stella mandolin I also have for sale, fitted with 11-40 gauge strings. *** In my Vintage & Traditional Guitars website, please check out the embedded YouTube clip from the irreplaceable Jake Wildwood, Country Guitar Doctor, entitled "1970s Harmony Monterey A-style mandolin by Jake Wildwood & Co". This is a much later example of the same model....only differing in appearance on the later headstock logo style. Additional link with the clip to the accompanying write up on his Jake's blogspot is also available there! Additional details, links to YouTube videos etc. are available on my VTG website via the link above. I have restricted the wording here to a basic outline, so please do fully research any additional details provided on my VTG website, and contact me for any further information in order to fulfil your purchase.
