This item is a commission sale - if you have a high end guitar or amplifier you are interested in selling, please contact us via our easy to find website - search: Sell Us Your Guitar. Here for sale we have a Fender Custom Shop LTD '51 Nocaster Relic in Nocaster Blonde finish. Upon its release in 1950, the Telecaster was in fact named the Broadcaster. Due to a trademark conflict with the Gretsch Broadkaster, Fender's new instrument could not be sold under that name, and for a brief period the model name was simply cut off the headstock decal before being applied. This led to a run of guitars without a name, unofficially known as Nocasters before the Telecaster name was added later in 1951. Made in the USA by the finest of Fender's luthiers, this instrument is designed to be a faithful recreation of the earliest incarnation of the Telecaster, before it even received its name. Naturally, a bolt-on construction is employed, and comprises an Ash body, rift sawn Maple neck and 21 fret Maple fingerboard. Nickel hardware is fitted including a '51-'54 style bridge with Brass barrel saddles and vintage-style split-post tuning machines, as well as a Bone nut. A pair of hand-wound '50-'51 Blackguard single-coil pickups are installed, and are wired to a 3-way blade switch, master volume & master tone controls. The Maple neck plays beautifully, and features a 'U' shape profile inspired by the original '50s instruments. Certainly on the thicker side when compared with modern necks, there is a real character to the playing experience which is very inspiring in the hands. The wear to the rear of the neck, added as part of the relic finish includes considerable wear to the finish at the rear of the neck, leaving a large section without any lacquer. This section is incredibly smooth to the touch and feels absolutely fantastic in the hand. In a departure from the original specification, the fingerboard features a compound radius, transitioning smoothly & gently from 7.25" in the lower register to 9.5" at the top of the neck. Whilst not strictly vintage correct, this adds a nice bit of modern practicality for string bending and vibrato techniques. The pair of Fender Custom Shop Hand-Wound '50-'51 Blackguard Single-Coils provide a rich, varied and authentically vintage set of tones. The neck pickup provides warm glassy clean sounds that are thick, smooth and pack a real punch. The middle position is slightly brighter with a detailed mid range that is a perfect blend of both positions, whilst the bridge position provides all of the brightness and spank that you would expect. The pickups handle overdrive well, with anything from crunchy blues tones to hard rock sounds well within reach, making this guitar fit into a wide range of musical styles and a perfect workhorse. This guitar is an excellent example of why Fender have long been renowned as the pinnacle of guitar building, and why their designs have stood the test of time. A great opportunity to own a vintage-accurate instrument with very lightly updated playability features.
