Larrivee O-50 Gloss Natural 2004 Parlor Acoustic Guitar

This item is a commission sale. If you have a high-end guitar or bass you’re interested in selling, please contact us. Here for sale we have an absolutely beautiful Larrivee O-50 Parlor acoustic guitar in Gloss natural finish. Larrivee guitars was founded in Toronto in 1967, beginning in Jean Larrivee's basement whilst he was a student of Edgar Moench Sr. Initially basing his designs on European classical guitars, he began developing his steel-stringed instruments in his first commercial space on the second floor of the Tarragon Theater from around 1970. Since then, Larrivee guitars have developed a reputation for incredible craftsmanship, beautiful tone and stunning aesthetics. Indeed, they are well known for their beautiful inlay work, which since '79 have been exclusively designed by Jean's wife Wendy. This stunning O-50 is an early example of work from the Oxnard, California factory which was opened in 2001. Made in 2004, this guitar features an all-solid construction comprising a Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides, Mahogany neck and 18 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. The body is double-bound in solid Maple, whilst the top is adorned with handsome Herringbone purfling and rosette, as well as a tortoiseshell pickguard. The headstock logo is inlaid in Mother of Pearl, matching the diamond pattern fingerboard inlays. A Bone saddle and nut are fitted, along with a set of Nickel three-a-side tuners. The Mahogany neck plays exceptionally well, with a profile which might be described as a fairly substantial 'D' shape which provides a suitably vintage-inspired playing experience across the register. A volute is also featured behind the nut which adds to the pre-war feel of the instrument and adds a real sense of character to the instrument. The Ebony of the fretboard is luxurious under the fingers, and with its 16" radius is both traditional and practical for a wide range of playing styles and techniques. The small stature of the Parlor body design is supremely comfortable in the arms and provides a sense of intimacy to the playing experience. The acoustic voice of the Larrivee O-50 is supremely well-balanced thanks to its small size. The Sitka Spruce top projects beautifully, and whilst not providing as much volume as a larger body instrument like a dreadnought, delivers plenty of dynamic range without any loss of clarity at higher volumes. The Mahogany back & sides add depth and warmth to the sound which balances beautifully with the brightness of the Sitka Spruce. This is a distinctive instrument with the unique sound that we expect from a Parlor, in a beautifully made & strikingly attractive package. Luthier Report Our ID: 1170725117740 Weight: 3.5lbs Serial: 75910 Aesthetic Condition: Headstock: Overall excellent condition. A light indentation to the rear of the headstock can be seen at the bottom of the bass side slot, not piercing the finish. A very light indentation is present at the treble side top corner. Any other markings to the headstock are difficult to discern. Neck: Overall very good condition. The binding at the end of the fingerboard demonstrates a small gap towards the bass side, with a very small portion of the binding loose. This is typical of this construction as the binding shrinks with age. Very light indentations to the rear of the neck which do not pierce the finish are apparent throughout the register, most notable behind the first fret and at the heel. These markings are only visible under direct light and close scrutiny, and do not impact the playability of the instrument. The satin finish to the rear of the neck has worn to a light gloss through regular use. The fingerboard shows light wear under direct light in the low register which does not impact playability. Body: Overall very good condition. The front face demonstrates very light indentation towards the bass side waist which is visible only under direct lighting and close scrutiny. A similar marking is present at the bass side edge of the lower bout. The bottom edge of the front face shows a very small chip which lightly exposes the wood. The centre of the rear face shows light indentation which does not pierce the finish, consistent with playwear. At the binding of the bass side waist the rear edge shows a moderate chip in the lacquer which exposes the wood, and round the chip there is very light delamination of the finish. This remains stable and should not worsen if care is taken. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate light signs of use, with some light indentation in the early frets quickly improving as you climb the register. There is considerable material remaining for any future fret work the new owner may wish to perform. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool not included. Hardware: Excellent condition. Structural: No concerns or issues to note. Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.75mm - Bass 2.25mm Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height. Strings on Guitar - 11-52 There is a small amount of material remaining in the saddle for future adjustments. Electrics: N/A Case & Accessories: Hiscox hard case The case is for a dreadnought guitar and is padded out using bubble wrap. The exterior of the case shows slight ‘blistering’ or separation near the neck, as well as light to mild oxidation of the latches. The case protects the guitar as intended. Truss rod tool not included. This item is a commission sale. If you have a high-end guitar or bass you’re interested in selling, please contact us.
