Here for sale we have a stunning Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom in Ebony finish. The Holy Grail of instruments for many guitarists, the Les Paul Custom was first introduced in '53, one year after the original Gibson Les Paul was released. The Custom was likely created at the request of Les Paul himself. Indeed, the Ebony finish was chosen as a more luxurious and classy looking guitar which he wanted to 'look like a tuxedo'. Originally shipping with a P90 in the bridge and the Seth Lover-designed 'Staple' pickup in the neck, The instrument went through several iterations over the next few years as the ABR-1 bridge and PAF pickups were developed until the single-cutaway Les Paul was largely discontinued in 1960 in favour of the double-cutaway version - a model which is today known as the SG. This Custom Shop model was made in the USa in 2016, and features a set-neck construction comprising a Mahogany body with Carved Maple top, Mahogany neck and 22 fret Richlite fingerboard. Gold hardware is fitted including a Nashville TOM bridge, StopBar tailpiece and Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with Keystone buttons. The headstock and fingerboard are inlaid with luxurious Mother of Pearl, whilst the body is double bound and features multi-stripe purfling, echoing the headstock binding. A pair of Gibson passive humbucking pickups are installed, with a 490R in the neck and 498T in the bridge position. These are wired to the standard Les Paul 3-way toggle and independent volume & tone controls. The Mahogany neck plays exceptionally well, with a profile which might be described as a moderately-sized 'D' shape which lends itself well to a wide variety of playing styles and techniques. The Richlite of the fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, delivering a smooth and durable playing surface across the register. With its traditional 12" radius, the fingerboard is practical for both chordal and melodic playing styles, with string bending and vibrato techniques feeling nice and easy. At 9.55lbs, this guitar is a traditional weight for a Les Paul, and provides a reassuring sense of dependability to the instrument along with the resonance and sustain that we expect from these instruments. Amplified, the pair of Gibson passive humbucking pickups deliver thick and full-bodied tones, just as we expect from Gibson. The 490R in the neck is round and powerful, and can handle plenty of gain for saturated lead tones. The 498T in the bridge is of course brighter, and with a higher output can easily push your amp into a harmonically rich & searing distortion tone which is perfect for rock rhythm parts and riffs. The traditional control layout is as practical and comprehensive as ever, with the pots responding well to small changes for easy tweaking of your tone while playing. Luthier Report Our ID: 1280725120850 Weight: 9.55lbs Serial: CS 601325 Aesthetic Condition: Headstock: Overall very good condition. The front face demonstrates light to moderate scratching which is visible under direct lighting. Some of these are circular surrounding the machineheads, whilst others run across the face. The top edges demonstrate light indentation with the center of the rear edge showing chipping which lightly reveals the wood beneath. Some finish cracking is apparent at the joint between the binding and the headstock, also surrounding the logo edges. This is typical for Nitro finished guitars. Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck demonstrates a patch of light indentations behind the 3rd fret which can be slightly felt under the thumb, though not affecting overall playability. Further lighter, less frequent indentations are apparent throughout the register, difficult to discern against the black finish. Any markings to the fingerboard are difficult to discern. Body: Overall very good condition. The front face demonstrates consistent light scratching throughout, most notable to the bass side of the fingerboard extension. The binding, edges and sides demonstrate similar markings, with a notable chip to the clear coat on the rear bottom edge binding, not damaging the binding beneath. The rear face demonstrates consistent light scratching, most notable in the center of the face consistent with buckle rash. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate moderate signs of use, not affecting playability. There is considerable material remaining for any future fret work the new owner may wish to perform. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (5​/​16" socket) not included. Hardware: Fully functional with moderate signs of wear, most notably tarnishing and fading of the pickup covers, bridge & saddles. Structural: No concerns or issues to note.
