Wolfgang Huttl Archtop Red Burst Hollow-Body Archtop Vintage

This guitar is a commission sale. If you have a high end guitar you are interested in selling, please contact us. Here for sale we have what would appear to be a Wolfgang Huttl archtop electric guitar in a Red Burst finish. Wolfgang Huttl founded his namesake guitar company in Bubenreuth, Germany after the expulsion of the Sudeten Germans from Czechoslovakia at the end of WWII in 1946. The company at its peak employed around 50 people and produced around 500 instruments a day. The company operated until 1983 making a variety of guitars and basses, mainly focussing on acoustic guitars. Huttl died on Christmas Day 1995. Due to the lack of information available on these instruments online, it has not been possible to definitively ascertain the model number of the instrument or its construction materials, and with no serial number present the year of manufacture is not clear. What we can see is that the body is likely made from Maple due to the grain pattern that is visible. The neck is set into the body, and appears to be a 3-pc Laminated Maple construction. It is topped with a 20 fret Rosewood fingerboard, and a floating bridge made from either Ebony or some kind of composite material is also featured. Nickel hardware is fitted, including a trapeze tailpiece and three-on-a-plate open-geared tuning machines. A Schaller integrated pickguard pickup & electronics system is installed, with master volume & tone controls. + The neck plays very well, with a profile which could be described as a moderately-large 'D' shape, with a nicely flattened area to the centre rear which encourages ergonomic thumb positioning across the register. The Rosewood of the fretboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with its 10" radius is practical for both chordal and melodic playing styles. The small size of the body ensures comfort in the arms whilst the cutaway enhances access to the upper register. The acoustic voice of the instrument is soft and nicely balanced thanks to the small stature of the body. There is of course the distinctive character that we expect from an archtop guitar, with a soft yet accurate bass response and muted top end which makes the guitar highly suitable for jazz playing. The Schaller floating pickup and electronics system does an excellent job of capturing the tonal character of the instrument, adding the versatility required for live or recording situations. The included controls offer ample opportunity to dial in a variety of tones making this an incredibly usable instrument with a unique aesthetic and sonic character. Brand- W. Luthier Report Our ID: 1240725119851 Weight: 3.7lbs Serial: N/A Aesthetic Condition: Headstock: Overall good condition. All aspects of the headstock demonstrate lacquer checking, indentation, scratching and chipping of the finish. This is most notable to the top corners where finish has chipped away revealing the wood beneath. The logo on the headstock has faded and is illegible. The rear edge of the bass side demonstrates similar chipping, revealing the wood beneath. Neck: Overall very good condition, the rear of the neck demonstrates light to moderate indentation and scratching throughout the register. This is most noticeable behind the 5th and 6th frets. The fingerboard demonstrates light playwear throughout which does not impact playability. A finish crack is apparent between the heel and the butt of the neck. This does not flex under pressure and therefore does not impact the structure of the instrument. Body: Overall good condition. All aspects of the body demonstrate lacquer checking, indentation, chipping of the finish and scratching. This is most apparent to the edges of the guitar where the painted binding is chipped in places revealing the wood beneath. A small patch of finish inconsistency is apparent to the rear bass side shoulder - it is difficult to identify if this is a knot in the wood or a previous repair. Several cracks are apparent to the rear face, however none of these flex and appear to only impact the surface of the ply. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate notable signs of use. At the 10th & 15th frets of the 1st E, bending the string causes the note to ‘choke’ out. Otherwise, playability remains excellent across the entire register. There is not enough material remaining for future fret work. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: N/A Hardware: Fully functional. The bass side tuning machines have been replaced with an incorrect side, meaning that these now wind in reverse. Structural: No concerns or issues to note. Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2mm Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height. Strings on Guitar - 10-46 Electrics: Fully functional. The tone is reverse taper, meaning it increases the treble as you roll it down. Case & Accessories: No case is provided with this guitar.
