Here for sale we have an Avalon Silver Series DS-200E electro-acoustic guitar in Gloss Natural finish. Avalon Guitars was originally founded as The Lowden Guitar Co. in 1989 after purchasing the purpose-built factory, staff and assets of Lowden from receivership. When the licence agreement with George Lowden expired in 2003, Avalon was born, and grew into the worldwide guitar company we know today. Whilst distinct from Lowden, Avalon guitars share Lowden's fantastic build quality and excellent reputation amongst players. The Silver Series instruments were made exclusively in Korea between 2003-2006, and represent Avalon's first foray into outsourcing the construction of their instruments from their home in Northern Ireland. Later, the Gold Series were also made overseas in Czechia. The Silver Series was designed to be a more affordable entry point into Avalon's range of guitars, taking Avalon's DNA and design ethos and making use of more modern manufacturing techniques to deliver high-quality instruments at an affordable price. This particular example was made in 2003, and features a set-neck construction comprising a Solid Sitka Spruce top, Laminated Rosewood back and sides, Mahogany neck with Rosewood headplate and 20 fret Rosewood fingerboard with matching bridge. A set of Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with Ebony buttons are fitted, as well as a Fishman undersaddle PIezo pickup which is wired to a Fishman​/​Avalon Prefix Plus on-board preamp system. The Mahogany neck plays very well, with what could be described as a moderately-sized 'C' shape profile which fills the hand nicely for a substantial yet articulate grip which is practical for a wide range of styles and techniques. The Rosewood fingerboard is luxurious under the fingers, and with its 16" radius facilitates both chordal, melodic and fingerstyle playing with ease. The smooth lines of the dreadnought body feel great in the arms, and with dual strap buttons offers comfort in both standing and seated positions. The acoustic voice of the Avalon DS-200E is both rich and balanced. The dreadnought body size delivers plenty of volume when required, and manages to avoid the 'boominess' often associated with dreadnought designs. The Rosewood back and sides deliver a warm yet detailed low end along with an open and clear midrange. The Solid Sitka Spruce top resonates well, whilst adding a rich and shimmering top end to every note played on the instrument. The Fishman​/​Avalon Prefix Plus uses a piezo pickup to achieve as natural a sound as possible. The controls offer comprehensive control of your tone in both live and recording situations, making this a very versatile instrument. Light scratching to the front face is visible under direct light, with milder scratching visible across the logo. The top rear edge demonstrates light indentation which does not pierce the finish. Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck demonstrates moderate indentation behind the 12th fret which pierces the finish slightly. This can be felt under the thumb in playing position. The satin finish to the rear of the neck has worn to a light gloss through regular use. Body: Overall very good condition. A mild indentation to the front face is present between the pickguard and treble side waist, lightly piercing the finish. Further lighter indentation can be identified throughout the lower bout, not piercing the finish. Light scratching to the bass side of the soundhole and pickguard is consistent with playwear. The sides and rear face demonstrate light indentation and scratching, most notably to the center rear consistent with playwear. The edges of the instrument demonstrate light indentations throughout, most notably at the binding near the lower strap button where the finish is lightly cracked. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate mild signs of use, with light indentation in the early register and flattening of the crowns throughout. This does not affect playability. There is considerable material remaining for any future fret work the new owner may wish to perform. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (4mm hex) not included.
