Brook Taw Gloss Natural 2000 OM Electro-Acoustic Guitar

This guitar is a commission sale - if you have a high end guitar you are interested in selling, please contact us. Here for sale we have a Brook Taw electro-acoustic guitar in Gloss Natural finish. Handmade in the UK in 2000, this guitar is an example of some relatively early work from the Brook workshop in Devon. Luthiers Andy Petherick & Simon Smidmore began working with Andy Manson in the early '90s, building guitars under the AB Manson & Co name. After Manson decided he preferred to work alone, Simon & Andy purchased the business from him, initially producing Manson guitars under licence before inquiries about their new Brook guitars overtook those for the Manson brand. Since then Brook guitars have developed a reputation amongst professional players and enthusiasts alike for excellent build quality & craftsmanship, as well as their use of exquisite tonewoods in their construction. This OM sized instrument features an all-solid construction comprising a Spruce top, Rosewood back and sides, Mahogany neck, 20 fret Ebony fingerboard & Rosewood bridge. The headplate is made from Ebony and the fingerboard is inlaid with handsome Mother of Pearl dots, whilst the body is double bound in Walnut. The top features an attractive fine herringbone rosette with matching purfling, as well as a modestly-sized black pickguard. A Bone saddle & nut are installed, as well as a set of Chrome Gotoh sealed tuning machines. A K&K Pure Mini transducer pickup is installed, and is wired to a direct output. The Mahogany neck plays very well, with a rather shallow profile which might be described as a very soft 'V' shape. Behind the nut there is a unique volute with a ridge to the centre. This lends a historic and traditional feel to the instrument when playing in the lower register. In conjunction with the 'V' profile, the neck is well equipped for a wide range of playing styles and techniques across the register. The Ebony of the fingerboard adds a touch of luxury to the playing experience, enhanced further by the handsome Mother of Pearl inlays. With a 16" radius, the fingerboard delivers comfort for chord playing and fingerstyle whilst facilitating easy string bending and vibrato techniques. The acoustic voice of the Brook Taw is supremely well balanced, as can be expected for an OM body design. Being on the smaller side, the bass response is softer than a larger-instrument, yet it remains accurate and warm. The middle and treble response is open, clear and bright, working very well for fingerstyle playing as each note can be clearly heard. The Spruce top projects very well, delivering plenty of dynamic range. Being 25 years old, the top has aged beautifully, opening up over the years to respond to even the softest playing. The addition of the K&K Pure Mini transducer pickup provides the versatility required for live and recording situations, with the direct output ensuring that the structural and tonal integrity is maintained by avoiding the need for any holes to be made for the controls. A fine example of Brook's craftsmanship. Luthier Report Our ID: 1190725118590 Weight: 4.15lbs Serial: 007080 Aesthetic Condition: Headstock: Overall very good condition, the top edge demonstrates several indentations, piercing the finish in places. All aspects of the headstock demonstrate light scratching visible only under direct lighting at certain angles. Neck: Overall very good condition, the rear of the neck demonstrates light indentation throughout the register which is visible only under direct lighting at certain angles and cannot be felt under the thumb. The early register of the fingerboard demonstrates light playwear somewhat difficult to discern against the natural grain. This cannot be felt under the string. The finish surrounding the heel and fingerboard extension has cracked slightly, presenting no structural concern and is due to varying expansion/shrinkage rates of the differing woods between body and neck. A gap is apparent to both sides of the fingerboard extension - when discussing this with the team at Brook Guitars, they explained they leave a small border of the fingerboard extension unglued to assist removal in the future. Body: Overall very good condition. The front face demonstrates several moderate indentations, most notably to the bass side lower bout where a series of indentations pierce and crack the finish. Moderate scratching can be identified to the bass side waist. The sides and rear face both demonstrate similar scratching, most notably to the treble side lower bout edges. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate moderate signs of use with flattening of the crowns apparent throughout the register. This does not impact playability. There is moderate material remaining for future fret work. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (7mm socket) not included. Hardware: Fully functional with very light signs of wear. Height of the string from the 12th Fret-2mm - Bass 2mm Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height. Strings on Guitar - 11-52 There is moderate material remaining in the saddle for future adjustments. Structural: The treble side of the bridge is lifting very slightly. When measured, the gap is approx 0.2mm in height, and approx 2mm of the feeler gauge fits under the bridge. This does not currently impact playability, however may require amending in the future. The instrument has been priced to reflect this. Electrics: Fully functional. Case & Accessories: Original Hiscox Hard Case The case demonstrates moderate signs of use; the latches of the case show moderate oxidation. The case remains fully functional. Truss rod tool not included. This guitar is a commission sale - if you have a high end guitar you are interested in selling, please contact us.
