Here for sale we have a Case Guitars J25 Semi-Hollow electric guitar in High Gloss Honey Burst Nitrocellulose finish. Case Guitars are a very small company based in Kent, UK. Jon & Joseph Case hand make all of the guitars, mostly to order, although a very limited number of instruments are held in stock ready to buy. The founder Jon Case left a successful career in graphic design around the year 2000 to begin producing guitars full time, and after a positive response from professional musicians was able to found Case Guitars. The company produces unique instruments inspired by the classic designs and tones of the '50s & '60s, using asymmetry to produce a distinctive look as well as incredible balance and excellent upper fret access. This instrument was commissioned in 2020 and completed in 2021, and clearly takes many design cues from the Gibson ES-339. A semi-hollow set neck construction is employed, and comprises a Quilted Maple body, Mahogany neck and 22 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching headplate. The headstock and fingerboard are inlaid with Mother of Pearl, with the fret marking inlays featuring an attractive 'Wave' design. Nickel hardware is fitted including Kluson stoptail and tune-o-matic bridge and Grover Deluxe tuning machines with Keystone buttons. The pickups installed in this guitar are a pair of Monty's PAF humbuckers which are wired to a 3-way toggle switch and independent volume & tone controls. It is also worth noting that the fit, finish and build quality of the instrument is impeccable throughout. The Mahogany neck plays exceptionally well, with the 'C' shape profile offering a smooth and responsive experience across the register. Whilst certainly on the slightly thicker, vintage-inspired side, the neck remains slim enough to feel fresh and modern enough to explore new sounds with. The Ebony of the fingerboard is beautifully dark, and with its' tight grain provides a smooth and durable playing surface whilst beautifully complementing the luxurious feel of the instrument. The offset design of the instrument is supremely comfortable in both standing and seated positions and indeed does improve access to the top frets. The pair of Monty's PAF humbucking pickups installed in this instrument deliver warm, vintage-inspired tones with a little twist of modern reliability. Indeed Seth Lover's original PAFs were wound on rather primitive machines, meaning that there was a huge variance in the sound & quality of the first PAFs. This is not the case with Monty's PAFs which produce a rich warmth whilst retaining impressive clarity for a humbucker. The neck position is round and powerful for lead and solo tones, whilst there is a refined brightness from the bridge which grinds beautifully when driving the amp. The traditional twin humbucker controls are as versatile and responsive as ever, allowing you to dial in a plethora of tones without even touching a pedal. An absolute credit to Jon & Joe Case which goes to show that it's not just the big boys who can produce an exceptional instrument.
