Here for sale we have a Fretless Fender Jazz Bass JB-355FL in Black finish. Made in Japan in 1989-90, this bass features a bolt-on construction comprising an Alder body, Maple neck and 'un-lined' Rosewood fingerboard. Nickel hardware is fitted including a top-loading 4 saddle bridge and Gotoh open-geared tuning machines. The pickups have been upgraded by a previous owner to a set of Wizard Scatterwound Jazz Bass single-coils. These are wired to the standard independent volume and master tone controls. The Maple neck plays very well. The profile is likely Fender Japan's 'Oval Type' shape, and will feel familiar to those used to Fender's popular 'C' shaped necks. Certainly, it offers comfortable playability and easy reach across the neck. The Rosewood of the fingerboard is of very high quality, being nice and dark in appearance with a nice tight grain pattern. This is sumptuous under the fingers, and with no lines present to indicate where the frets would be offers a fully free playing surface for the player to explore and experiment with. Fender's more recent fretless offerings all feature lines so these unlined examples are becoming a rare find. The pair of Wizard Scatterwound Jazz Bass single-coil pickups deliver Thick and full-bodied bass tones, working exceptionally well on this fretless example with the flatwound strings contributing towards a convincing upright bass tone. The middle position is warm and round, whilst the bridge pickup is of course brighter and produces a snappy tone that captures the attack of your playing beautifully The traditional Jazz Bass controls are as comprehensive as ever, allowing you to blend the pickups in any combination for a wide range of sounds and versatile tones. Luthier Report Our ID: 1040825123110 Weight: 9lbs Serial: I006162 Aesthetic Condition: Headstock: Overall very good condition, the top edge demonstrates consistent light to moderate indentation, piercing the finish in places. Further light indentation and chipping can be identified along the treble side edges of the headstock. All aspects of the headstock demonstrate light scratching visible only under direct lighting at certain angles. Neck: Overall very good condition, the rear of the neck demonstrates light indentation consistently throughout the register. These can be slightly felt under the thumb in the playing position. The fingerboard edges demonstrate similar indentation throughout. The fingerboard demonstrates some impressions of roundwound strings, these cannot be felt beneath the string and do not affect the overall playability of the instrument. Body: Overall good condition, all aspects of the body demonstrate moderate scratching and indentation which pierces the finish. These markings are consistent throughout. The most notable of these to the front face is a patch of finish demonstrating a sanded texture to the treble side corner of the bridge plate. The most notable marking to the sides is a large chip to the finish to the bass side lower bout edge. The rear face's most notable markings are to the bottom edges, where consistent scuffing, scratching and indentation causes a hazing of the finish under some lighting.
