Made in the USA in 1988, this guitar is part of Fender's Strat Plus series, which was introduced in 1987 after having been developed in conjunction with Jeff Beck. Beck had requested a special guitar be made for an upcoming tour of his in Japan. This guitar went through several iterations before becoming the Jeff Beck Signature Stratocaster, whilst some of the features became part of the Strat Plus line. Beck was often seen playing a Strat Plus live even after the release of his signature model. Of course, a bolt-on construction is employed and comprises an Alder body, Maple neck and 22 fret Maple fingerboard. A 2-point synchronized tremolo bridge with block saddles is fitted, along with a set of Sperzel locking tuning machines and a Wilkinson Roller nut. Modifications to the guitar include the changing of the pickups, with a Fender Lace Sensor Silver single-coils in the neck and middle and a Fender Lace Sensor Blue in the bridge. Originally the guitar would have shipped with a trio of Fender Lace Sensor Gold single-coils. The guitar has also been refinished in what appears to be a Fiesta Red colour, likely in nitrocellulose lacquer. The body has been quite extensively reliced, with wear marks in high contact areas, chips and 'dings' in the finish and extensive lacquer checking. The Maple neck plays very well, with the 'C' shape profile feeling rather slender in the hand, especially when compared with Fender's more modern neck profiles. This provides an articulate and easily manoeuvrable playing surface across the register. The Maple fretboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with its traditional 9.5" radius is highly practical for both melodic and chordal playing styles. The Medium Jumbo frets enhance the feel of string bending and vibrato techniques whilst reducing the pressure required to fret notes, resulting in a smooth and fast playing experience in any position. The Wilkinson Roller nut works in conjunction with the Sperzel locking tuners to ensure excellent tuning stability for both bending and use of the tremolo system. The trio of Fender Lace Sensor pickups installed in this guitar deliver traditional Stratocaster tones with reduced noise. They were designed with a unique combination of different metals and magnets, which help to eliminate unwanted noise and hum - one of the major drawbacks of traditional single-coils. Fender eventually replaced the Lace Sensor pickup with their own Noiseless pickups, the fourth generation of which are still found in new guitars today. The Silver neck pickup is warm and full bodied, with plenty of power to push your lead and solo tones to the front of the mix. The middle pickup is brighter with a more focussed tone, working very well for funky rhythm sounds. The blue bridge pickup is hotter than your average single-coil, with a strong midrange and plenty of output for lead playing and rock riffing. Some light indentation which does not pierce the finish is present at the treble side front edge. Any other markings to the headstock are difficult to discern. Neck: Overall very good condition. Light discolouration of the fingerboard edges is apparent throughout, but is more notable to the treble side. The fingerboard shows very light lacquer cracking in the upper register, with the lacquer on the frets having chipped, likely during previous fretwork. Body: Overall very good condition. The body has been refinished in what appears to be a Fiesta Red colour, and quite heavily reliced. The refinish seems to be nitrocellulose due to the extensive checking apparent throughout the body. Any markings to the body are difficult to discern from the relic work. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate moderate signs of use, with light indentation in the early register and flattening of the frets throughout. This causes some slight buzzing in places which can be slightly heard through the amplifier. There is moderate material remaining for future fret work. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (1​/​8" hex) not included. Hardware: Fully functional with light signs of wear, most notably light tarnishing of the saddles. Backplate included without screws. Tremolo arm included. Structural: No concerns or issues to note. Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2mm Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height. Strings on Guitar - 10-46 Electrics: Fully functional. The original Gold Lace Sensor pickups have been swapped out for 2x Silver and one Blue Lace Sensors. No original parts are included. The action of the pickup selector is rather stiff, but remains functional. It is difficult to feel the ‘notch’ in the centre of the TBX control, but otherwise it functions as expected. Case & Accessories: Fender hard case The case demonstrates light signs of use. The interior check strap has broken so that the case opens fully and does not hold the lid up.
