Fender Stratocaster Blonde 1979 CBS Era Vintage Electric

This item is a commission sale. If you have a high-end guitar or bass you’re interested in selling, please contact us. Here for sale we have a Fender Stratocaster in Blonde finish. Made in the USA in 1979, this guitar features a bolt-on construction comprising an Alder body, Maple neck and 21 fret Maple fingerboard. CBS era appointments include the 3-point micro-tilt neck plate, bullet truss rod adjustment and large 70's headstock with CBS era Fender logo. Chrome hardware is fitted including a 6-saddle bridge and CBS era split-post 'F' stamped tuning machines. A trio of CBS Fender single-coil pickups are installed, and are wired to a 5-way blade switch, master volume, neck tone and middle tone controls. The Maple neck plays fantastically well, with the '70s neck profile feeling somewhat like a 'U' shape and providing a substantial yet articulate playing experience in all registers. The profile will feel familiar to those used to modern Fender necks, but provides a little more thickness for an authentic vintage playing experience. The Gloss finish to the rear of the neck assists with smooth navigation of the 25.5" scale, whilst the playwear that has accumulated over the years adds a real sense of mojo to the playing experience which is very inspiring in the hands. The Maple fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with the 7.25" radius delivers a suitably vintage playing experience. The new frets the guitar has been fitted with could perhaps be described as medium jumbo, and provide a rock-solid playing surface with enhanced string bending and vibrato feel. The trio of Fender CBS Alnico 5 Grey Bottom single coil pickups installed in this guitar deliver clear and crisp tones, with shimmering cleans and punchy overdrives, just as you would expect from a Stratocaster. The neck pickup is warm and round, with plenty of power to push your solo tones to the front of the mix. The middle pickup is bright and spanky, and is well suited to funky rhythm tones. The bridge position handles gain very nicely and provides a richly saturated tone for rock rhythm parts. The controls are nice and responsive, and with the 5-way switch and traditional Stratocaster wiring provide the opportunity for a plethora of unique and interesting tones. An authentic vintage piece that remains highly practical and playable even after 46 years. Luthier Report Our ID: 102052597500 Weight: 10lbs Serial: S950155 Aesthetic Condition: Headstock: Overall good condition, the finish surrounding the machine heads has begun to crack and delaminate. A burn is apparent to the bass side edge of the front face near the nut. All aspects of the headstock demonstrate chipping, scratching and indentation consistent with a well played instrument of this age. Neck: Overall good condition, the fingerboard has been previously re-fretted. This is apparent due to finish chipping surrounding some frets, alongside chipping to the finish surrounding the fret tangs on the side of the fingerboard. The end of the fingerboard demonstrates further chipping of the finish. All aspects of the neck and fingerboard demonstrate chipping, scratching and indentation consistent with a well played instrument of this age. Body: Overall good condition, the bass side of the front face lower bout demonstrates wear through the finish which appears to have been clear coated to preserve the wood beneath. The rear face demonstrates notable buckle rash wearing through the layers of finish revealing small spots of wood beneath in places. All aspects of the body demonstrate chipping, scratching and indentation consistent with a well played instrument of this age. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate notable signs of use, with indentation and flattening of the crowns throughout the register. There is moderate material remaining for future fret work. This neck has had a refret performed to a playable standard, however some uneven fret seating on the bass side of the neck causes notable fret buzz on the low E which is apparent through the amplifier and affects sustain and bending of notes. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (1/8" hex) not included. Hardware: Fully functional with moderate signs of wear. The tuning machines appear to have been replaced with period-correct CBS-style ‘F’ stamped tuners, and one of the string trees does not appear to be original. The pickguard has been changed for an appropriate black one, and the pickup covers and control knobs have also been changed. The original pickup covers and knobs are included. Structural: No concerns or issues to note. Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.75mm - Bass 2.25mm Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height. Strings on Guitar - 10-46 This instrument demonstrates notable fret buzz to the Low E, less notable but still present on the other strings. The new owner may wish to raise the action or perform a level and recrown to alleviate this issue. Electrics: Fully functional. Case & Accessories: Original Fender hard case The case demonstrates moderate signs of wear, remaining fully functional. Tremolo arm, original pickup covers & control knobs included in the case. Truss rod tool not included.
