Gibson Custom Shop ‘58 Reissue Les Paul Junior DC TV Yellow

Here for sale we have a Gibson Custom Shop '58 Reissue Les Paul Junior DC in TV Yellow finish. The Gibson Les Paul Junior was initially introduced as a high-quality affordable guitar in 1954, with a stripped-back specification with no carved Maple top, no binding, one pickup and singular volume and tone controls. The TV Model came slightly later in '55 to promote The Les Paul & Mary Ford Show, and was largely the same as the Junior, save for the new TV Yellow finish. The double-cutaway model was introduced in '58, proving extremely popular; almost doubling the sales of the instrument. The initial run was discontinued in '63, but the instrument has always remained popular thanks to its simplistic configuration and no-frills approach. This Custom Shop reissue was made in the USA in 2006, and of course features a set-neck construction comprising a Mahogany body, Mahogany neck and 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Nickel hardware is fitted including Gibson Deluxe 3-on-a-plate tuning machines and an aftermarket Advanced Plating wraptail piece, as well as a Bone nut. A single dog-ear P-90 pickup is installed, and is wired to master volume & tone controls. The neck plays beautifully, with a very substantial profile which lives up to it's '50s Rounded 'C' name. The neck exudes character, providing a playing experience which is unique amongst the slimmer profiles which have become ubiquitous today. The thickness of the profile means a firm grip can be sustained on chords, riffs and rhythm playing. Lead lines and solos are easily possible, with a very real sense of personality to the instrument which informs the way it is played. It has to be said that fast licks and shredding solos are not especially well facilitated, unless you happen to have particularly large hands. Amplified, the Gibson Dog-Ear P-90 pickup delivers a thick and full bodied tone, which works well in a variety of contexts. The P-90 can be thought of as an overwound single coil, which means that it actually benefits from features of both single-coil and humbucking pickups. Clean sounds are bright and clear, whilst overdrive and distortion tones are grittier and thicker than you would expect of a single-coil. The master volume and tone controls offer ample adjustability of your sound whilst fitting in perfectly with the simplistic ethos of the instrument. This is a seriously cool guitar with a vintage vibe, unique playing experience and distinctive sound. Luthier Report Our ID: 1180525100830 Weight: 7.8lbs Serial: 8 6194 Aesthetic Condition: Headstock: Overall very good condition. All aspects of the headstock display relicing from a previous owner. The front face shows mild to moderate scratching. On the front face behind the nut mild markings are present where a previous owner has replaced the nut. Neck: Overall very good condition. Light lateral scratching can be seen near the frets from previous fret work, these can not be felt under the fingers in the playing position. Light indentations are present the the rear of the neck throughout the register, these can lightly be felt under the thumb in the playing position. Some indentations to the sides of the fretboard are present at the 9th fret bass side. Body: Overall very good condition. All aspects of the body have undergone relicing from a previous owner, with indentations, scratching and nitro checking being attempted. The most notable marking is to the rear face consistent with buckle rash, along with some deeper indentations which pierce the finish around the sides of the body. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate light signs of use, not affecting playability. Light denting and flattening of the frets is apparent to the early register. There is moderate material remaining for any fret work the new owner may wish to perform. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (5/16" socket) not included. Hardware: Overall very good condition. The original bridge has been replaced with an Advanced Plating tailpiece, the original is included. All aspects of the hardware have had relicing done by a previous owner, this is most apparent to the pickup cover with moderate pitting present below the strings. Structural: No concerns or issues to note. Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2mm Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height. Further notes: Through research on the guitar, we have ascertained that the instrument has been ‘reliced’ by a previous owner, rather than the markings being from regular wear. More information can be found online by searching for ‘Gibson 8 6194’. Strings on Guitar - 10-46 Electrics: Fully functional. Case & Accessories: Non original Gibson USA Gold Anniversary hard case.
