Gibson Les Paul Custom c.1975 Refinished Vintage Electric

This guitar is a commission sale - if you have a high end guitar you are interested in selling, please contact us via our easy to find website - search: Sell Us Your Guitar. Here for sale we have a Gibson Les Paul Custom electric guitar, which has been refinished in a Gold/Blonde colour. The serial number and specification of this guitar indicate its manufactured in the mid '70s, with certain features pointing towards 1975. These include things like the serial number, which is stamped along with a 'Made in USA' marking which Gibson introduced in '75. The pancake body construction was discontinued in 1976, and the 3-pc Maple neck with a volute was introduced on Custom models in '75. Additionally the pot codes read the 50th week of '74. These indicating factors mean we can be confident that this guitar was manufactured in the mid '70s, likely in 1975. This guitar features a set-neck construction, with the aforementioned ‘Pancake’ or ‘Multi-piece’ body construction comprising a thin layer of Maple sandwiched between two slabs of Mahogany, and a carved Maple top or ‘Cap’. The neck is a 3 piece Maple construction, topped with a 22 fret Ebony fingerboard, inlaid with real Mother of Pearl blocks. Gold hardware is fitted including a Nashville T-O-M bridge and StopBar tailpiece, along with Gibson branded Schaller sealed tuning machines with keystone buttons. A pair of Gibson humbucking pickups are installed, with what is likely the original Patent number stamped baseplate pickup in the neck and a non-original HB-L in the bridge. these are wired to a 3-way toggle switch and independent volume & tone controls. The 3-pc Maple neck plays exceptionally well. The removal of the original finish and application of an oil finish serves to provide a supremely smooth and comfortable playing surface which assists with fast navigation of the 24.75" scale. The profile of the neck might be described as an moderately-sized 'C' shape, which whilst thick enough to inspire confidence when rhythm playing and chording, remains slim enough for articulate lead lines and solos. The Ebony of the fingerboard is luxurious under the fingers, and benefitting from an expertly-performed refret is one of the best playing vintage Les Pauls we have come across. The weight is a reassuring 10.55lbs, which delivers plenty of resonance and sustain as well as an authentic vintage playing experience. The pair of Gibson humbucking pickups installed in this guitar deliver thick and full-bodied tones, just as we expect from a Les Paul. The neck pickups is creamy and round, delivering plenty of power for lead and solo tones. The HB-L is a Bill Lawrence-designed pickup introduced in the late '80s which produces a high output to easily push your amp into a saturated distortion, perfect for rock riffing and rhythm parts. The traditional Les Paul controls are as practical and comprehensive as ever, responding well to small changes and facilitating easy tweaking of your tone while playing. A rare opportunity to own an incredibly well-playing example of a mid '70s Les Paul Custom, with its very own 50 year tale to tell. Luthier Report Our ID: 126012573990 Weight: 10.55lbs Serial: 9644291 Aesthetic Condition: Headstock: Overall good condition. There is evidence of an amateur refinish/overspray of the rear and sides of the headstock which has wrinkled, chipped, and peeled across the entire face. The finish on the front face demonstrates moderate to notable clouding and hazing. All aspects of the headstock demonstrate light indentation and mild scratching of the finish, most notable to the top edges. At the centre of the top edge there is a small gap in the binding due to shrinking. The binding remains stable. Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck has been stripped and refinished with an oil based finish. The oil finish is smooth and hard under the thumb, and provides a comfortable playing surface. The fingerboard demonstrates some very slight indications of previous re-fret, with repaired chip-out by the 15th and 16th frets. The binding shows discoloration along the register, more notable on the bass side. Overspray from the refinish has landed on the binding of the fingerboard extension, causing discoloration and somewhat obscuring the side fret markers beyond the 17th. Body: Overall fair condition. This guitar has had an amateur refinish. It is difficult to discern exactly what paint has been used but it is not nitrocellulose or polyurethane. The finish to the back and sides has wrinkled, and demonstrates chipping and peeling, revealing the original basecoat and underlying wood. The texture of the finish is rough under the fingers, most notable where the finish was thickest inside the cutaway. Beneath the bridge on the front face, a footprint of a tremolo system (likely Kahler) that has since been removed and filled. Beside the controls the footprint of a mini toggle switch has been removed and filled. A small gap is present in the rear binding by the upper strap button as a result of shrinking. The binding demonstrates overspray to the sides. The outside edge of the lower bout shows discoloration and wear of the finish around the front face. The front face demonstrates consistent light cracking/crazing of the finish throughout. All aspects of the body demonstrate scratching, chipping and indentation of the finish. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate very light signs of use, not affecting playability. There is considerable material remaining. This guitar has had a refret performed to an excellent professional standard. The fret nibs on the binding have been removed. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (5/16" socket) not included. Hardware: Fully functional with light signs of wear. The bridge and stop tail appear to have been replaced. The original bridge is included in the case. The cavity covers to the rear show signs of shrinking. The tops of the reflector knobs show wear/corrosion, most notably at the bridge volume. The stop tail posts show moderate tarnishing. Structural: No concerns or issues to note. Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2mm Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height. Strings on Guitar - 10-46 Further Notes: It is worth noting that whilst this report details extensive finish wear and cosmetic issues, the instrument is incredibly playable. The oil finish to the rear of the neck is particularly pleasant, and the refret has been performed to an incredibly high standard. The guitar is priced to reflect the cosmetic issues. Electrics: Fully functional. The bridge pickup has been replaced. The original is not included. Case & Accessories: Hard case The case demonstrates notable signs of wear, including separation of the top from the sides, interior felt peeling, interior pocket collapsing and the tolex has become detached in various spots. Truss rod tool not included.
