Hagstrom Jimmy Oval Hole Natural Gloss c.1970s Archtop
Here for sale we have a Hagstrom Jimmy Oval Hole Archtop Electric Guitar in Natural Gloss finish. Made in Sweden in the 1970s, this set-neck constructed guitar consists of a Laminated Birch body, a 2-piece Birch neck, and a 20-fret Ebony fingerboard. Other appointments include sealed Van Ghent tuners, a H-logo tailpiece, a compensated adjustable Ebony bridge, and a Shadow AZ 48 Attila Zoller Jazz Humbucker with pickguard-mounted controls for volume and tone. Designed by James D'Aquisto for the Hagstrom company, the guitar got redesigned to feature an oval sound hole instead of two F-holes. These models are much rarer than the F-hole models, with only 350 being made before production stopped in 1979. The 'D' profile 3-piece Maple neck sits comfortably in the hand, the slim profile allows for fast and easy navigation without feeling too thin. This promotes ergonomic thumb positioning and easy reach across the register, perfect for a wide range of playing styles and techniques. The Gloss finish to the rear of the neck assists with smooth navigation of the 24.75" scale length, whilst the Ebony fingerboard adds a touch of luxury to the already opulent playing experience. The acoustic voice of the Jimmy Oval Hole is both soft and articulate, perfectly capturing the 'Jazz Box' tone that you would expect from this instrument. Chords sound distinctive and clear, whilst melodic lines are smooth. The Shadow AZ 48 Attila Zoller Jazz Humbucker delivers a smooth tone which is equally at home as a solo instrument or blending into an ensemble mix. An interesting and unique instrument with a genuine vintage jazz vibe. Our ID: 1120725116592 Weight: 7.5lbs Serial: 53013154 Aesthetic Condition: Headstock: Overall very good condition. Mild indentations are present to the top edge of the headstock, these have broken through the lacquer finish with some exposing the wood beneath. Light haziness of the finish can be seen on the front face, with this light scratching is also present which can be seen under direct light. Neck: Overall good condition. Cracking of the lacquer finish can be seen to the rear of the neck to the bass side near the nut, these are not structural and do not affect the guitar's structure. Light indentations are present to the treble side rear of the neck, these can very lightly be felt in the playing position. The inlays have been lifted, these are structurally sound and can not be felt in the playing position. A slight gap is apparent between the end of the frets and the binding, this is common on a guitar this age due to the binding shrinking. Body: Overall very good condition, the front face demonstrates a finish crack running the length of the body on the bass side. This does not affect the structure of the instrument. A moderate indentation is apparent towards the treble side edge of the lower bout, piercing the finish slightly. The sides demonstrate similar indentation, most notably several surrounding the jack socket and one to the bass side shoulder. The rear face demonstrates light scratching and indentations visible only under direct lighting at certain angles. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate notable signs of use, not affecting playability. There is only a small amount of material remaining for future fret work. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (3mm hex) not included. Hardware: Fully functional with light signs of wear. Structural: The heel does not sit perfectly flush on the body, suggesting this guitar may have had repair work performed to adjust the neck angle. This however does not flex and is firm. The neck angle on this instrument is acceptable. Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.75mm - Bass 2mm Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height. Strings on Guitar - 10-46 Electrics: Fully functional. Case & Accessories Hard case. Very good condition. Light scuffing and signs of use.
