Here for sale we have an Ormsby Goliath GTR 8 Kris Xenopoulus signature headless electric guitar in Strawberry Storm finish. Made in Korea, this is part of Ormbsy's Run 17 which was introduced for the Winter NAMM Show in 2019. Xenopoulus is best known for his work in the South African deathcore band Vulvodynia, formed in Durban in 2014. A long time Ormsby Artist, this model is his first production Signature model, and was available in 6, 7 & 8 string variations. Ormsby are a boutique guitar brand based in Perth, Australia, producing high-performance metal and shred-focussed instruments in small runs, pre-ordered by customers. The company was founded in 2003, with their first model being the Hype Gtr. A bolt-on construction is employed, and comprises a Swamp Ash body, Wenge neck and 24 fret Ebony fingerboard with Pearl dot inlays in a 'Z' pattern with 'Ormsby' inlay at the 12th fret. Gold hardware is fitted including an Ormsby Custom Headless Multiscale bridge and Headless Locking Nuts. A pair of passive humbucking pickups are installed, with a PVH in the neck and Hot Rock in the bridge. These are wired to a 5-way blade switch and master volume control. The Wenge neck plays very well, with Revised 'D' Shape profile offering a high-performance, laser-focussed playing experience across the register. The profile might be described as asymmetrical; slightly slimmer to the treble side for increased speed and accuracy on lead lines and solos. The multe-scale and fanned frets offer a more balanced string tension than more conventional 8 string instruments, allowing for thinner gauge bass strings. Although the fanned frets might look challenging to play on, it has to be said that they don't feel as extreme as they look when actually playing, and is certainly something that the average player could get used to with ease. Amplified, the pair of passive humbucking pickups deliver thick, crushing tones that are perfect for deathcore and any genre which is focussed on heavy low down riffing and articulate lead parts. The neck position is powerful and raw, driving your lead lines to the front of the mix. The bridge pickup is of course brighter and hotter, producing a searing, saturated distortion tone for heavy rhythm parts. The 5-way switching offers a versatile array of tones, splitting the humbuckers down into single coils for chiming clean tones when required. A striking instrument which is sure to turn heads. Body: Overall excellent condition, it is difficult to discern any markings to the body. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate minimal signs of use. There is considerable material remaining for any future fret work the new owner may wish to perform. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (4mm hex) not included. Hardware: Fully functional with very light signs of wear. The rubber grips on the control knob have perished but remain functional and secure. Structural: No concerns or issues to note.
