Here for sale we have a Shergold Masquerader SM03-SD in Thru-Black finish. Shergold Guitars were a popular British brand in the '70s, borne out of the Hayman and Burns brands among others. The brand was revived in 2017 by Barnes & Mullins who were the UK distributors of the original Shergold guitars. The original '70s instruments were re-designed in the UK by Patrick James Eggle, updating them with modern features for the contemporary guitarist. Made in Indonesia, this guitar features a bolt-on construction comprising a Mahogany body, Rosewood neck, and 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Chrome hardware is fitted, including a Tele-style ashtray bridge with Brass saddles and staggered locking tuning machines with black buttons. A trio of Seymour Duncan single-coil pickups are installed, with a Vintage SSL-2 in the neck, Vintage SSL-2RW in the middle and Vintage STL-2 in the bridge position. These are wired to a 5-way blade switch, master volume and master tone controls. The Rosewood neck plays very well, feeling exceptionally luxurious in the hand thanks to its deep rich colour and grain, as well as the hand-burnished finish to the rear. The profile might be described as a slim 'C' shape, which fills the hand comfortably for a substantial grip whilst remaining slim enough for fast articulate playing. The Rosewood fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with its 12" radius and medium jumbo frets is practical for a wide range of styles and techniques. The linear Aluminium inlays and side markers are a nice touch which make this instrument feel particularly unique. The trio of Seymour Duncan single-coil pickups installed in this guitar deliver smooth vintage inspired tones thanks to their flat Alnico V pole pieces. Designed to work with modern guitars with large fingerboard radius, the Vintage SSL-2 single coils in the neck and middle positions have a distinctively vintage character well suited to indie and rock styles. The middle pickup is reverse wound to cancel out any unwanted hum in position 4. The STL-2 in the bridge position is SD's version of a hot Tele pickup which matches the neck and middle flat Alnico V pole pieces, whilst using a high output wind and no bottom plate to deliver a fat, punchy tone.
