Here for sale we have a Squier Silver Series Stratocaster SST-33 in Black finish. The Silver Series was introduced alongside the new Hank Marvin signature in 1990 in response to the poor reputation that Korean-made Squiers had been developing in the preceding years. The Silver Series guitars were made at the Fujigen factory in Japan, and gained a very favourable reputation amongst players thanks to their great build quality and the use of higher grade hardware than their Korean-made counterparts. The series was beloved, with an example that was owned and played by George Harrison fetching almost $30000 at auction in 2003. Naturally, a bolt-on construction is employed, and comprises a P.A.F Wood Fiber body, Maple neck and 21 fret Maple fingerboard. Chrome hardware is fitted including a vintage-style 6-point tremolo bridge with bent steel saddles and die cast trem block, as well as a set of Gotoh sealed tuning machines. A trio of 'ST Single' single-coil pickups are installed, and are wired to a 5-way blade switch, master volume, neck tone and middle tone controls. The Maple neck plays very well, with the ‘Oval Type’ profile sitting very comfortably in the hand and promoting ergonomic thumb positioning across the register. The Maple fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers and offers a tactile and durable playing surface. The 7.25" radius delivers a suitably vintage-inspired playing experience whilst retaining practicality for lead lines and string bending. The smooth lines of the Stratocaster body with generous contours are as comfortable and familiar as ever, ensuring that long gigs and practice sessions are a breeze. The trio of ST 'Single' single-coil pickups installed in this instrument deliver classic Stratocaster tone. The bridge pickup is bright and glistening, with plenty of spank and power to make your rhythm parts and riffs sound gritty. With subtler amp settings the bridge offers a bright, glassy clean tone which shimmers beautifully. The middle pickup produces bright trebles and full warm bass, lending itself very well to funky rhythm tones. The neck pickup is rounder, with buttery smooth tones that are equally well suited to chordal phrasings and lead lines. The traditional control layout is as comprehensive and practical as ever, just as we expect from a Stratocaster. Moderate scratching​/​indentation to the front face near the truss rod access. A very light chip is present to the tip of the rear face. All faces of the headstock display light scratching and indentations which are only visible under direct light. Neck: Overall very good condition. Light indentations to the rear can be felt across the register, but do not impact the overall playability of the instrument. The fingerboard also shows light indentation, most notably up to fret 4 where the wood has discoloured. Body: Overall good condition. Light to mild scratching and indentation is consistent across all aspects of the body, most notably at the treble side of the rear face and close to the jack socket on the front face. The pickguard also shows notable scratching at the treble side. Light to mild scuffing is most notable around the bottom edge, particularly by the jack socket. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate light signs of use, not affecting playability. There is considerable material remaining for any fret work the new owner may wish to perform.
