Here for sale we have a Taylor 514ce electro-acoustic guitar in Gloss Edgeburst finish. Made in the USA in 2022, this guitar features an all-solid bolt-on construction comprising Red Ironbark back & sides, Torrefied Sitka Spruce top, Tropical Mahogany neck and 20 fret West African Crelicam Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. The body is double bound in tortoise, whilst the top is adorned with an Abalone rosette & tortoise pickguard. A Tusq nut and compensated Micarta saddle are fitted, as well as a set of NIckel Taylor tuning machines. Taylor's Expression System 2 (ES2) behind-the-saddle piezo pickup and on-board preamp system are installed, with discreetly shoulder-mounted controls for master volume, bass & treble. Red Ironbark is a relatively new tonewood in Taylor's line up, and is sourced from their innovative 'Urban Wood' program. This makes use of trees from urban environments, close to the Taylor factory in California. When a tree requires removal for any reason, local councils often have to dispose of the tree in landfill or other costly processing methods. As part of their drive to improve the sustainability of their production methods, Taylor has partnered with West Coast Arborists (WCA) to make use of these woods in their guitar building. Taylor describes the tonal characteristics of Red Ironbark similarly to Rosewood, with lush resonance and plenty of power whilst remaining remarkable balanced. The Tropical Mahogany neck plays very well, with Taylor's neck profile feeling smooth and comfortable in the hand. The profile could be described as a very soft 'V' shape. This offers a smooth and responsive playing experience across the register. The 'V' profile makes a refreshing change in the modern world of 'C' shapes and 'Low Oval' profiles, providing a surface which is ergonomic for a wide range of playing styles and techniques whilst ensuring comfort in any fingerboard position. The 15" fingerboard radius is traditional for Taylor, and being made from Ebony provides a smooth, durable & luxurious playing surface. The Grand Auditorium body design is supremely comfortable in the arms, with the cutaway enhancing access to the upper register. The acoustic voice of the Taylor 514ce is bright and clear, with an unpronounced yet accurate low end, strong mid response and sparkling trebles which add a shimmer and chime to every note played on the instrument. The Grand Auditorium body design delivers the best of both large and compact bodies; sizable enough to produce a powerful and clear voice whilst remaining small enough to be comfortable in the arms. The Torrefied Sitka Spruce top projects beautifully and offers a wide dynamic range, whilst producing a warmer & more refined tone than a typical un-aged Spruce top. Taylor's Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the acoustic voice of the instrument, providing the versatility required for both live and recording situations. The top front edge shows a patch of finish wear, likely where a clip on tuner has been attached. This is only visible under direct light and close scrutiny. Any other markings are difficult to discern. Neck: Overall excellent condition. Any markings to the neck and fingerboard are difficult to discern. Body: Overall excellent condition. Light scratching to all aspects of the body is visible under direct light, as is common with high gloss finishes. A very light indentation to the front face is visible to the centre of the lower bout, not piercing the finish. The rear face shows milder indentation when viewed under direct light, consistent with buckle rash. The pickguard shows light scratching consistent with playwear. Condition of Frets: The frets demonstrate light signs of use, not affecting playability. There is moderate material remaining for any future fret work the new owner may wish to perform.
