Tom Anderson Guitarworks Pro Am Classic Translucent Red 1991

Here for sale we have a Tom Anderson Pro Am Classic custom-made electric guitar in Translucent Red finish. Made in the USA in 1991, this guitar comes from the revered Tom Anderson Guitarworks, which was originally founded in 1984 making pickups for Schecter Japan. Anderson had worked for Dave Schecter since '77 until the company was sold in '84. At Dave's advice, Anderson founded his own company and developed a name for himself by producing necks, bodies & pickups for the likes of John Suhr, Roger Sadowsky & James Tyler. By '87 he had begun to construct complete instruments, which were signed with several retailers at the NAMM Show that year. By '93 Anderson had moved his focus exclusively to producing his own instruments, with only hardware parts like bridges and tuners not being produced in-house. Based on the Fender Stratocaster, the Pro Am Classic features a Swamp Ash body, Hard Rock Maple neck and matching 20 fret fingerboard. Black hardware is fitted including a Sunken Kahler Steeler double-locking tremolo system and sealed Tom Anderson tuning machines. A trio of Tom Anderson pickups are installed in an HSS configuration, with an HN3+ in the bridge, SK1 in the middle and SK1R in the neck. These are wired master volume & tone controls and the Tom Anderson 'Switcheroo' system. This comprises three independent 3-way pickup switches which select series, off and parallel modes, as well as a 2-way 'blower switch' which bypasses the pickup switches and engages all three pickups. The Hard Rock Maple neck plays exceptionally well, with a moderately slim profile to the rear which fills the hand nicely for a substantial grip whilst remaining slim enough for fast articulate playing. Certainly, the profile is something that will seem familiar to those used to Fender necks, feeling somewhat similar to a 'C' shape. The Maple fingerboard offers a smooth and durable playing surface, and with its 9.5"-12" compound radius is tailored to the needs of the musician in all registers; comfortable for chord playing in the lower frets and transitioning smoothly to a lead-friendly flatter surface as you climb the fretboard. The generous cutaways and sculpted neck heel enhance access to the upper register, meaning you can really make use of all 22 frets. Amplified, the Tom Anderson pickups installed in this guitar deliver a wide range of tones, suitable for a plethora of genres and musical situations. The HSS configuration has always been the most versatile of pickup combinations, and with Tom Anderson's 'Switcheroo' system there is almost no end to the range of tonal options on offer. The HN3+ in the bridge is nice and hot, producing a searing output for rock rhythm parts and riffs. The neck and middle single coil pickups are wound quite hot to balance comfortably with the bridge pickup. Whilst producing a high output, they clean up beautifully for shimmering clean tones and tight, funky sounds. An excellent example of Anderson's early work which feels just as modern & versatile as the day it was made. Verification report

Luthier Report Our ID: 1260725120441 Weight: 8lbs Serial: 1-31-91P Aesthetic Condition: Headstock: Overall good condition. Mild to moderate scratching, chipping and indentation is apparent to all aspects of the headstock, piercing the finish in places. This is most consistent towards the top of the headstock, particularly to the front treble side edge and around the rear edge. Neck: Overall good condition. The fingerboard demonstrates playwear in the early register, revealing the natural maple beneath. Some light to mild tooling marks are present beside some frets in the upper register, likely from recent fret work. The rear of the neck demonstrates light indentation throughout the register which can be slightly felt under the thumb but does not impact the overall playability of the instrument. Body: Overall very good condition. All aspects of the body demonstrate consistent light scratching and indentation, causing a hazing of the finish under direct lighting. This is most notable to the lower bout of the front face and the center of the rear. The markings to the rear are consistent with buckle rash. The sides of the instrument show light to mild indentation, piercing the finish slightly at the treble side waist and bass side of the lower bout. Condition of Frets: The frets appear to have recently had a level and re-crown performed to an acceptable standard. There are some light markings throughout which do not affect playability. There is moderate material remaining for future fret work. Current Set Up: Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (flathead driver) not included. Hardware: Fully functional with moderate signs of wear, most notably oxidation of the bridge. Structural: No concerns or issues to note.
