Here for sale we have a Yamaha nearfield studio monitor system, including a Yamaha P3500 amplifier, matched pair of NS-10M Studio passive 2-way loudspeakers, associated cables and three spare boxed Yamaha JA1801A woofers. The Yamaha NS-10 is an industry standard loudspeaker, being found in countless recording and mixing studios all over the world. Originally released in 1978, the NS-10 was intended as a home hi-fi speaker. Unsuccessful in that purpose at the time, the speaker became a favourite amongst producers and recording engineers thanks to their ability to easily reveal poor quality in recordings. Indeed, the philosophy is that if a mix sounds good on NS-10s, then it is highly likely to sound good on the majority of playback systems. Far from having a flat frequency response, the speakers are boosted in the upper mid-range and feature a rather limited bass response thanks to their sealed-box design. NS-10s are popular because of their clinical, analytical sound - exposing poor mixes easily and encouraging the engineer to compensate. Several revisions to the original design were made over the years, the best known of which is the NS-10M Studio for sale here. Released in 1987, the speakers became industry standard thanks to their use by producers such as Bob Clearmountain & Nigel Jopson amongst many others. Indeed, many studios installed these speakers to attract big name producers, and their ubiquity in studios meant that they worked well as a reference point for engineers who were familiar with them, being used to produce many of the albums we all know and love from the '80s & '90s. The P3500 amplifier included in the sale is a power amplifier with 350 watts of power per channel at 8ohms. This particular unit has been modified with additional speaker outputs making use of male XLR ports as extra speaker outputs. This was a common modification before the advent of Speakon connectors to prevent the cables being accidentally ripped out. Also included are associated cables and three spare genuine Yamaha JA1801A woofers. This item has been tested and is in full working order. The amplifier shows moderate cosmetic wear, with scratching and indentation consistent across the chassis. The speakers demonstrate very good used condition, with some staining of the speaker cones. Similar staining is present on the spare woofers.
