Shaftesbury 3261 , Rare 'Set Neck' - Matsomuko - Japan, 68
This vintage, and very rare survivor, 1st period of production ‘Shaftesbury 3261’ (set neck) model was commissioned by Rose Morris – London; from the Matsumoku factory in Japan, and released in limited numbers for less than 12 months from the summer of 1968 until the spring of 1969, when ‘Shaftesbury’ production was moved to Eko's - Recanari factory in Italy where the build spec changed to a bolt on neck along with other stylistic changes. This vintage and historically important instrument, styled in an homage to the Ric 360 model that was discontinued in 1964, with famous player luminaries including Pete Townsend and George Harrison is in very good vintage condition for its 56 years. Chrome work looks great, with typical body finish imperfections consummate with its age that are mainly confined to the bottom and side edges. Remarkably there is no buckle or belt rash to the rear, with the front of the body presenting in its bright gloss 3 tone orange burst finish that has that aged finish patina only a true vintage instrument presents. Original pick-ups, electronics all functioning perfectly, bridge, tailpiece, scratch plates, and pots (with period correct styled replacement covers). A very nice straight super-thin set neck profile that is effortless to play, rosewood fingerboard cleaned and oiled, and frets in great condition. This very redolent 68/69 release Shaftesbury 3261 guitar is a great piece of British rock/mod history, different tonally with interesting pickup sounds and plays as expected! The guitar is strung with medium 10-46 strings and will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. A padded gig bag completes the pairing for transit protection purposes. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. We are happy to provide additional photos on request. A very rare opportunity to purchase a top of the line, highly desirable, ‘Shaftesbury 3261’ (set neck) model, celebrating its 56th year, from the ‘Golden Build Period’ at the Matsumoku factory - Japan, not seen on the market in excess of 30+ years, with highly desirable build and cosmetic features. Significantly appreciating in value over recent years due to the very limited Japan production release with the 'set neck', making this ‘Shaftsbury 3261’ vintage guitar model highly desirable to Collectors, Investors and the discerning Stage player. A ‘players’ condition vintage classic, with a great tone, charm and a ton of stage mojo, is ready to continue its historical musical journey with its next custodian.
